Someone else has used my profile. What should I do?

If you think someone else has used your profile, you need to act as quickly as possible.

The first thing you need to do is try to log into your account using your regular username and password.

If you can still log in:

Change your password immediately so the baddies can’t get in. Just click on your profile picture at the top right of any Match page, click ‘My account settings’, and then ‘Modify’. Follow the instructions to change your password. Finally, log out of Match on every device you use. We also recommend you change the password for your email.

If you can no longer log in:

If you can’t log into your account, we’ll close it down for you and transfer your details and any subscriptions to a new one.

First, create a new profile using a different email address. Once your new profile is up and running, contact Match customer care. You’ll need the screen name from your old account and your new customer number (find it in ‘My account settings’). We’ll close your old account, transfer your subscription to the new one and you’ll be good to go.

How to help stop it happening again

We’re all about security, but here are some ways you can help keep your account secure.

  • Choose a stronger password. Make it longer, with a mixture of small and capital letters, numbers and special characters.
  • Always log out of Match if you access your account from a shared computer.
  • Never share or forward Match email alerts with anyone else.
