If you and your date like thrillers that digs into the human psyche, this one is for you.

Based on the bestselling 1967 novel by Ira Levin, this movie follows a pregnant women, Rosemary who is scared that her husband may have agreed to give their child to their elderly neighbours and no, we don’t mean for adoption. Rosemary thinks her peculiar neighbours may want her child as human sacrifice for one of their rituals. With so much unknown, you and your date are going to be in for a shock. Expect an “OMG!” moment.

House of the Devil, 2009

match.com’s fright rating: 7.5/10
One thing’s for sure, you and your date will be on the edge of your seats from the beginning as the movie claims that it’s based on true events! It’ll also take away any dreams of babysitting in the future. Not sure what we’re talking about? This movie is about a college student, Samantha Hughes who needs some cash for a deposit on an apartment. What seems like an innocent babysitting job for an ordinary couple soon leaves Samantha in danger as she finds herself in the middle of a satanic ritual on the night of a lunar eclipse.

Carrie, 1976

match.com’s fright rating: 7.5/10
Stephen King’s 1947 novel forms the basis for this movie where a shy 17-year old girl called Carrie has grown up being abused by her mother Margaret. School is just as bad and one girl in particular, who wants revenge on Carrie, ends up humiliating her when she is crowned prom Queen. Carrie then unleashes her mental powers of telekinesis where she can move things with her mind. We know you’re thinking back to Roald Dahl’s Matilda but don’t be fooled, this movie is disturbing.

Troll Hunter, 2010

match.com’s fright rating: 7/10
Remember your university days? Bet you weren’t investigating mysterious bear killings unlike these students! Sure it sounds exciting and adventurous but this mockumentary is quite chilling. The students follow a character called Hans and they hunt down trolls (the mythical creatures, not the one who lurk on the internet). Of course the trolls don’t play nice. If we were to dive deeper, we’d be giving too much away but what we will say is that this dark fantasy does have some humour – perfect for you and your date to enjoy a giggle before you get caught up in the intense moments again.

Happy Halloween!
