Modern dating involves a lot of “putting yourself out there”. Sign up to that online dating website. Download that dating app. Go to that party where you don’t know anyone. After all, it’s a numbers game. But we can’t forget the most important person in all this – you!
We need to make the effort and step out of our comfort zone in order to meet new potential partner, however, once in a while it’s also a good idea to take a step back and focus inwards.
“You need to do what it takes to present the best version of you.”
So although it’s important to put yourself in situations where you could meet people that you’re attracted to, self-improvement should also be a priority. Take the time to work on yourself and do things you enjoy, then when the man or woman of your dreams comes along you’ll be at your best.
So here are five ways you can improve your dating chances, without actually dating.
1. Work On Your Look
“But it’s about personality!” I hear you cry. Well it is, but physical attraction is important too. There’s no point worrying about what you don’t have, just make the best of what you’ve got. You’d be surprised at the difference a good hairstyle, a flattering outfit, and just taking that extra bit of care of yourself can make. So make sure to invest the time and effort into your look so you can be the best you possible.
2. Hit The Gym
There’s never any harm in getting in shape. Even if you’re a woman and naturally skinny, it’s a good idea to build muscle tone. Not only can workouts improve your body, getting fit gives you extra confidence and a sense of purpose which are the most attractive qualities of all.
3. Take Up A Hobby
When you go on a date and someone asks you what you like doing in your spare time, it’s good if you have something to say other than “drinking and watching pointless YouTube videos over and over” (not that there’s anything wrong with either of those!). So take up a new sport, start a language course, join a hiking group, or anything else that takes your fancy. Not only will this make you a more well-rounded person and give you new experiences to talk about, you’ll also meet new people and you never know what could happen…
It’s a cliché, I know. We’ve seen the classic “Posing with a drugged-up tiger” and “African orphan” pictures a million times. But travel really is an amazing life experience that, in my opinion, everyone should experience at least once. Not only does it give you the life experience and something really interesting to talk about on a date, the experience of going solo and meeting tonnes of new people is bound to bring you out of your shell.
5. Get Some Honest Advice
If you’ve been on the dating scene for a while and not really getting anywhere, you may have just been unlucky, but there could be something deeper at work. Maybe you end up talking too much without realising it and scaring off dates, or coming across as too quiet and not reeling them in. So ask for some feedback, perhaps from your most blunt friend, or an attractive member of your preferred gender who doesn’t know you quite as well (so they can give insight into your first impression). Choose carefully, then once you’ve worked out the problem, start self-improvement.
