Back To Basics: First Date Style Guide

When it comes to dressing for a date, confidence is the ultimate accessory. And, to exude confidence, you need to be comfortable in what you’re wearing.

We’ve got some great suggestions for what to wear on specific dates to help you feel at ease.

After work drinks

The best dating advice for women who have a date after work is to keep it simple. A classy outfit such as a pencil skirt and blouse will transition seamlessly from office to bar.

For a stylish twist on your work attire, switching your flats for some kitten heels and adding a belt to cinch in your waist will take you from ‘day’ to ‘date’ in an instant.

Restaurant

If you’re going on a dinner date, classic styles speak volumes. Opt for a figure hugging dress with cute heels (that you can walk in). Black is not only flattering, but it also hides a multitude of sins, such as red wine spillages, so a little black dress is perfect for a drinks or dinner date.

If you don’t feel comfortable in a bodycon dress, a skater style dress will accentuate your best assets and skim your hips beautifully, subtly showcasing your stunning silhouette.

Cinema

Choosing an outfit you know you’ll be comfortable in key on a cinema date. For many women, dressing up for the date is all part of the fun, but if you’re feeling self conscious about whether your dress will be too short when you sit down before you even get there, you’re not going to be relaxed or able to fully enjoy yourself.

Cinema dates call for cool and chic attire. Team your favourite jeans with pumps or heels and tuck in a pretty fitted top.

Walk

While comfort and practicality are important considerations, it’s still possible to look irresistible when donning your casual gear.

If you find yourself on a countryside ramble, our dating advice for women would be to wear something that is effortlessly cool. Converse trainers are a no-nonsense fail-safe, so team yours with dark skinny jeans and a brightly coloured top.

Picnic

British weather can be unpredictable to say the least, so if you’re embarking on a picnic date, it’s essential you’re dressed appropriately.

If your dating involves a picnic, it’s most probably a hot day, so why not show off your pins in some high-waisted denim shorts or if you’re not quite feeling that bold, a floaty knee lengthy skirt is perfect for dating. Mid-length skirts can be just as sassy as a mini. But, be sure to keep your proportions in check by tucking in a tee and teaming with some comfy espadrilles.
