Date ideas for music lovers

There is nothing like the dulcet tones of Adele, Barry White or Sade to help create the perfect romantic ambience on a date. But how about listening to some free local music for a more unusual date idea? Free music? Yes! There are a lot of venues in every town that offer free music, you just need to know where to find them…

Get Yer Pub On!

The most common places to find free music is a good old pub chain like O’Neils. These pubs regularly feature cover bands on a Friday night, blasting out big hits by Oasis, Kasabian and Kings of Leon to name a few. You might think this is a strange choice for a date, but believe you me there is nothing that brings people together more than a sing-along to Wonderwall or Your Sex Is on Fire.

Feeling Sophisticated?

Then how about heading to an upmarket bar that has a jazz trio or a chic bar with a pianist? Sit back, have a Martini and pretend you’re one of the cool cats.

Instead of meeting your date for coffee at a café, head straight to your nearest art centre or theatre. The South Bank Centre in London regularly features music at lunchtimes which can be anything from sopranos to afro beats. Sometimes you need a ticket but otherwise just rock up, grab a chair and listen to some sweet tunes.

Summer Loving had me a blast…

Summer outdoor concerts are great fun and can be found in your local newspaper. Local to me I have GlastonBarry, Cadstock and Penarth in The Park. Grab your date, a picnic, lashings and lashings of ginger beer and chill outside in the sunshine.

Shake ya maracas…

You don’t need to head to Rio to enjoy a decent carnival. Most cities have a local carnival at least once a year – Notting Hill Carnival (London), St Paul’s Carnival (Bristol) and Brazilica (Liverpool), to name a few. The streets are filled with the latest beats and tons of bars with DJ’s playing music into the wee hours. So don your short shorts, grab a whistle and get ready to shake your booty.

Taking your new amore on a music filled date will really make your date stand out. By creating an experience, you create a shared moment and this is bound to lead to a second, third and even more dates.
