New research into online daters from match has revealed that the singles of Dublin are the most generous when it comes to first dates. The largest and most comprehensive study of contemporary love and dating in the UK and Ireland found that the people of Dublin are willing to spend on average £48.53 on a first date, compared with just £35.68 in Plymouth, England, which scored the lowest in the survey.

However, when it comes to love and dating, the downside to Dubliners’ fun and gregarious nature was revealed when nearly a quarter (24%) of LoveGeist respondents admitted that they had seen off a previous relationship as a result of either their or their partner’s over-indulgence in alcohol.

The study, commissioned by match, also showed that Dublin daters were not so keen to find love that they were willing to sacrifice their independence – only 28% admitted to being comfortable with making such a change to their lives for a partner. However, their individual streak did have a romantic side as well – most Dubliners were perfectly happy to date someone their friends disapproved of – only 24% disagreed.
