Dating is the perfect excuse to go out for dinner, but with such an abundance of places to choose from it can be hard to pick the right venue.
London is full of pop-up restaurants and fancy fast food joints, but if you’re bored of burgers then Eastern European cuisine could be the way to go.
If you love hearty dishes then we’d suggest you dip into the delicious world of Polish food and drink, and we’ve found a restaurant that’s just right for a Polish date.
What’s the venue?
Ognisko on Exhibition Road – South Kensington. This classy and stylish venue is situated on the ground floor of the stunning Ognisko Polskie club. The elegant décor melds with a casual vibe and there is a large terrace overlooking the gardens which makes for a picturesque setting if you’re dating over the summer months.
What can you eat/drink?
Ognisko serves a large array of classic Polish dishes, but we’d recommend starting with Polish charcuterie. The restaurant also has a wonderful selection of Kopyta, Pelmeni and Pierogi; Polish dumplings with delicious fillings such as veal and pork, and chestnuts and forest mushrooms – great for sharing with your date.
For mains you’re spoilt for choice with grilled leg of lamb, venison and roast duck to name a few. If you’re feeling adventurous and really want to get into the Polish spirit we’d recommend the Zrazy Wolowe; beef filled with bacon, onion and sour cucumber on a potato pancake.
Poland is famous for its vodka, and the drinks menu doesn’t disappoint. An extensive cocktail menu features well known & loved tipples, plus 13 signature Ognisko cocktails. Our favourite is the spiced pear mojito, made from house infused pear vodka mixed with lime, mint, cinnamon syrup, pressed apple juice, angostura bitters and soda water.
If you prefer your vodka straight up, there’s a sprawling vodka menu in addition to the cocktail list. Choose from unique flavours like horseradish or hot honey vodka, or show your date your classy side by ordering a carafe of premium rye vodka, Sobieski Estate.
