    General attitude:

Did you know that the Netherlands was the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriages? There’s a general attitude of acceptance and freedom of choice in the Netherlands with most societies showing their support for equal rights for the LGBT community. Amsterdam in particular is a forward thinking city which welcomes gay and lesbian couples.

    Restaurants, bars & clubs:

This capital city is home to many gay districts filled with mouth-watering restaurants, lively bars and buzzing nightclubs. Club Church at the Kerkstraat is a popular gay dance and cruise club hosting many gay fetish themed nights. Here you’ll find talented DJs taking over the decks until early hours of the morning so you and your partner can party the night away!

Amstel Fifty Four is also popular a modern video bar for gays and lesbians and you could even visit Thermos, the oldest and largest gay sauna in Amsterdam. Along with it whirlpools, it has a gym, roof terrace, bar and restaurant.

    Gay events:

The Gay Pride event is the biggest gay event of the year. It takes place during the first weekend of August and attracts over 500,000 people. Amsterdam itself is transformed into the Capital of Happiness and Love along with special movies, exhibitions, street parties, sports, club nights and anything else that can be incorporated into society!
One of the key highlights is the Canal Parade where a lavish boat parade takes place. Everyone is welcome and the event lasts for a week.

    Sacred Places:

You and your partner could take a trip down to see a sacred monument which honours the struggles for gay rights. The Homomonument is near a beautiful historic church in Amsterdam known as “Westerkerk” and it lays next to a beautiful canal. Perfect for an emotional and reflective outing with your partner.

The Netherlands has a range of great hotels but if you’re looking to socialise with other gay travellers, there are many gay friendly hotels for you to stay at. For example, the Golden Bear on Kerkstraat 37 is the oldest gay hotel in Amsterdam and is extremely close to many gay bars and clubs.
If you’re more into exploring key places and attractions, you could stay at the Freeland Hotel on Marnixstraat 277. If you and your partner are shopaholics, the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam Hotel would be a treat. This luxury five star hotel is close to many popular shopping streets.

Keukenhof Park (meaning “Kitchen Court” in Dutch) is the largest flower garden in the world where a reported 7 million flower bulbs are planted annually – it’s a lovely place to visit as a couple and could make for the perfect end to a wonderful holiday!
