The 5 Best Ways to Enjoy Valentine’s Day if You’re Single
Yes, yes – the thought of being single for Valentine’s Day is perhaps a bit depressing. It feels like the whole world is coupled up or dating, everyone apart from you. But who says Valentine’s Day is just for couples?
If you’re single, Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to defy cupid and indulge in some down-right indulgent pursuits! Here’s how:
1. Embrace the Stereotypes
You’ve seen the movies. The single girl gorges on buckets of ice cream while single men gather their friends and spend the day playing video games.
If you’re not dating this Valentine’s then this is your opportunity to embrace those single stereotypes and indulge in your favourite things. Pop on your PJ’s (or your comfiest onesie – we won’t tell anyone!), order too much take-away and enjoy an evening of your favourite things.
2. Treat Yo’self
Overpriced flowers, fancy chocolates and fine wine. You don’t need someone else to treat you, so go on, shower yourself in lavish gifts this V.Day and feel fabulous.
Besides, rumour has it St. Valentine wasn’t in a relationship so spend the day treating yourself – we’re sure it’s what he would have wanted!
3. Spoil someone you love
Sure, February 14th is largely about love but even if you are single this year, there are lots of people who are dear to you.
Whether it’s your mum, sister or your best friend, why not spoil them rotten with a spa day, a shopping spree or simply dinner at your place?
4. Throw a party for your single friends
Invite all your single pals around for the best darn dinner party of the year!
If you’ve not got Jamie Oliver on speed-dial (yet) worry not, you can do this. Ask each of your guests to bring a dish, be it a starter, main or something sinfully sweet for desert, pop everything on the table and tuck in. Simples.
5. Moving on up
By this we mean getting rid of the baggage from your previous relationships.
Valentine’s Day is a tempting day to wallow in self-pity about your former partners but couldn’t all this emotional energy be put to better use?
Grab a bin liner and get rid of your old ticket stubs, photos and letters. Delete their number and messages from your phone while you’re at it.
It might hurt at the time but once it’s done you’ll feel better for it and can wipe the slate clean and start a fresh search for someone to spend next year’s Valentine’s Day with.
Remember though, February 14th is just one day and there are 364 other days in the year for you to meet people and go on dates. Today you can feel smug that you’re not cooped up in an overpriced restaurant and instead enjoy the things you love.
