5 Free dating ideas for summer

Summer: the season for fun, flirting and frolics. To keep you sizzling all summer, we’ve compiled our five favourite and fiendishly free date ideas to make the most of those long summer nights, without breaking the bank.

1. Match point.
There’s nothing like a bit of competition to set sparks flying, just make sure you’re not a sore loser. If your date is the athletic type why not check out the numerous free tennis courts for a fun rally or match? Create your own mini-Wimbledon and take on the persona of your favourite tennis celeb – who said role-playing wasn’t for the first date? For a slower pace why not take some boules to the park? Just watch out for small animals and ducklings…

2. Pick Your Own.
Get oh-so romantic with a basket of ripe English strawberries. Picking your own strawberries provides the opportunity of appearing distinctly English-gentlemanly in nature, but also puts the sexy lumberjack look you’ve been honing all year to good use! Muddied knuckles, open shirt and sun-kissed neck… Pick us out a pail of deliciously ripe strawberries and we’ll be left breathless. There are numerous pick your own fields all over the UK, keep an eye out to see if your local farm participates.

3. Old Fashioned Walk
Take the lead from Doris Day and Frank Sinatra and go for an old fashioned walk. Extra romance points if the route is pre-planned to include either: a lake, river, canal or fountain. Going in a nice circle around your biggest park should do nicely, or if you have a favourite spot where you could rock out a picnic, even better.

4. Petting Zoo
Show off your Dr Doolittle skills and get cutesy at your local Petting Zoo. Most of these are completely free and offer you the chance to chivalrously defend against goats and look adorable with bunnies. Swoon.

5. Museum Afternoons
There are over 50 free national museums in the UK that are completely and utterly free to attend. Visiting a free museum is pretty much living the British dream. You don’t have to dust off your history books or be an art buff to impress on a museum date. Wander around with us showcasing your own sense of wonder and curiosity and we’ll be putty in your hands.
