Derby trial – our commitment to our members’ safety
You may have seen some headlines about a trial that was recently held in Derby.
We are very sorry for those affected and appalled by these terrible acts.
We commend these individuals for their courage in coming forward which resulted in a conviction.
We also encourage anyone who has been affected by this case or others to come forward to the police.
At Match, our members’ safety is our highest priority. We continue to work closely with and support the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, the personal safety charity, to ensure our internal safety processes are as secure as possible.
We have developed an industry initiative with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust to spot suspicious behaviour and to look after people who’ve been traumatised. The Online Dating Association and the Trust are now using this to help the industry give its users the best possible protection and support.
If anyone has felt exposed to unsafe behaviour whether through our services or anywhere else, please do tell someone. You can speak to the police, the Rape Crisis Hotline on 0808 802 9999 or our helpline on 07585 904 108.
Above all, we encourage everyone to use the same common sense when meeting people online or any other social networks, as they would if they were meeting through friends or in a pub or bar or any public space.
