Match Reveals UK Dating Preferences In 2017

Ever thought about what effect the pets you own, hobbies you have or sports you play might have on your dating life? New Match findings reveal the dating preferences of over 250,000 singles looking for love including:

  • The most desirable pet singles wish their date owns (Dog)
  • The sport that singles find attractive (Swimming)
  • The most divisive interests (Theatre & Video Games)

Match, one of the UK’s most popular online dating sites, researched 250,000 singles looking for a date to discover commonalities in their dating preferences.

“Findings showed that there were some clear dating preferences, such as swimming-dog-owners, that UK singles are interested in”

As well as revealing that dogs are the most desirable pets for a love interest, with 23% expressing an interest in canine owners, less that 1% indicated that lizards or insects were pets they’d be looking out  for in their new date. Check out top 10s animal companions below:

  7. Gerbils/Guinea Pigs (6%)

Delving into the world of sports, fitness and exercise, the number one desired activity in a date was swimming. In a competitive field, this was closely followed by running, hiking, fitness training and cycling. For women, rugby was the second most desirable activity. Check out the top 10 desired activities below:

  1. Swimming
  2. Hiking
  3. Running
  4. Cycling
  5. Fitness Training
  6. Dancing
  7. Football
  8. Gym
  9. Tennis
  10. Rugby

Life would be tedious if we all agreed on everything, and in dating opposites often do attract. There were some clear discrepancies over what our singles were interested in, and what their counterparts were looking for. For men  it the stand out interest was video games, while for women theater proved divisive. Notable disparities appeared for:

  1. Theater
  2. Video games
  3. Camping
  4. DIY
  5. Cooking

On the findings, dating expert Sebastian commented: “There were some clear preferences commonly desired by singles in the UK, which gives an indicator as to what might be usually be found attractive by daters out there looking for love. These interests are often a large part of your date’s life, and they typically affect how they choose to spend their time and energy. How your date spends their days and their passions are both important parts of their personality – which is where singles are looking for compatibility. When it comes to dating, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone!”
