As the Strictly Come Dancing 2012 final hits screens this weekend, we reveal the top 10 sizzling pairings on – and sometimes off – the dance floor…
Kara Tointon and Artem Chigvintsev
EastEnders actress Kara was partnered with professional dancer Artem in 2010. The couple waltzed into first place in the competition and won first place in each other’s hearts too – they’ve now even moved in together. Bruno stated they were ‘sensuous, romantic and always pushed to the limit’ on the dance floor.
Joe Calzaghe and Kristina Rihanoff
In the five weeks Welsh boxer Joe lasted in the 2009 series of Strictly, he broke up with his model girlfriend of five years and embarked on a steamy relationship blonde bombshell partner Kristina. ‘We had a chemistry, we liked each other,’ Kristina admitted.
Flavia Cacace and Vincent Simone
Hot Italian dancer Flavia became World Champion with fellow Strictly professional Vincent, with the two embarking on a romance for 11 years. Sadly they’ve now separated, but they’ve kept their relationship on the dancefloor.
Flavia Cacace and Matt Di Angelo
Flavia’s relationship with Vincent came to an abrupt halt in 2007 when she waltzed off with her dance partner, former EastEnders actor Matt Di Angelo. The pair came second in the series and competed together on the Strictly live tour, where they topped the leaderboard more times than any other couple.
Flavia Cacace and Jimi Mistry
In 2010 it was third time lucky for Flavia when she was paired with another former Albert Square resident, actor Jimi Mistry. Their relationship was outed on the show by Tess Daly, who declared: ‘That should be a walk in the park for you two’ as they prepared to undertake the rumba, otherwise known as the dance of love. They made it to week seven of the series.
Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna
Former Hollyoaks star Ali and American dancer Brian made it to third place in 2009, but clinched the trophy as far as romance was concerned. Following Strictly, the couple performed in a sizzling West End dance show Burn The Floor together but their personal relationship came to an end in late 2010.
Gethin Jones and Katherine Jenkins
Once Wales’ favourite couple, TV presenter Gethin and opera star Katherine met on Strictly in 2007 when he was competing and she made a guest appearance. Sparks flew and the couple soon became engaged, but split six months before their wedding last year.
Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova
This professional pairing have been the most successful in Strictly’s history, winning seven of the show’s titles (including Christmas specials) between them from 2004-2010. The married couple showcased their chemistry on the show with a 2008 demonstration of a sensuous Latin medley and still perform together regularly.
Brendan Cole and Natasha Kaplinsky
Natasha and Brendan had arguably the best on-screen chemistry in the show’s history, winning the first series in 2004. At the time, Brendan’s partner Camilla Dallerup split with him, alleging their partnership was not strictly ballroom. But Natasha and Brendan have always denied anything happened between them.
Ola and James Jordan
Strictly’s most enduring love story, the Jordans have been dancing together since 2000 and married three years later. Competing on the BBC show since the third series, the couple are still able to dazzle with their chemistry in the group dances.
