5 Questions about dating in Brazil

According to our recent survey, nearly three-quarters of UK singles feel that we could take a leaf or two from other nationalities’ book when it comes to dating.

So, as part of our newly launched Date Explorer campaign we have asked fellow daters in other countries to share some insight into the dating game. This week we’ve visited Marina from São Paulo in Brazil to answer our 5 questions about dating:

1. Where would you normally go out on a first date?

It varies depending on where you are, so for example in São Paulo we’d go to a nice, trendy restaurant or bar with live music, but in South Brazil the first date would take place in a concert or a more traditional restaurant.
Traditionally the date would include some kind of food though!

2. Who pays on the first date?

Brazil is still a very patriarchal country, which means that men are expected to foot the bill, especially if it’s a dinner date.

3. Would you end the date in a kiss?

Most probably yes, and since we use kisses to greet each other the date usually starts with a kiss too, just not perhaps with the same kind of kissing…
It’s not completely unheard of for the first date to end in something more than a kiss – we are, after all, a nation of passionate people

4. How do you let your date know you’re interested in them?

Brazilian girls know what they want so they are likely to send a text pretty much straight after the date.
But guys like to play it cool, maybe “hard-to-get” and only call or text after a couple of days. It’s not terribly macho to show you’re too keen…
As Latinos we are very touchy-feely anyway, but it doesn’t always mean anything special – it’s just that we’re very affectionate people.

5. Who gets in touch first about a second date?

There are no rules here, so it’s usually whoever has the guts to make the first move!
